New York Mohel Rabbi Nechemia Markovits has been performing Bris Milah (Brit Milah) Ritual Circumcisions for both infants and adults for over 35 years. Practiced in the United States and abroad, for Jews (and non-Jews) of all affiliations and backgrounds (Orthodox, Conservative, Reform, etc...).
Rabbi Markovits was the youngest mohel ever to be certified by the Initiation Society and Beth Din of London, England. He began his practice shortly after his marriage in 1986. Since then, he has performed thousands of Bris Milah / Ritual Circumcisions and today is performing brissen on the children of the boys he circumcised over 35 years ago.
Mohelim throughout the United States and abroad often call him in consultation and he strives to accommodate all those who seek his skilled services. Rabbi Markovits often travels throughout the States and abroad even as far as to Europe and Asia to perform circumcisions.
Thousands have trusted Rabbi Markovits with performing traditional ritual circumcision Bris Milah in accordance with all the ancient halachic customs of our sacred Jewish tradition which has been practiced over 3,500 years.
As most Orthodox Mohalim, Rabbi Markovits WILL ONLY perform a Bris on infants using the plain Shield called a מגן - a Magen (in Hebrew) without the use of painful devices, thus avoiding pain to the infant. [more here]
In the late 80's and 90's Rabbi Markovits was a Certified Mohel on the staff of Friends of Refugees of Eastern Europe (F.R.E.E.) an organization that has coordinated and performed over 15,000 circumcisions for Russian Jewish immigrants.
Rabbi Markovits is a Highly Professional Expert Mohel, Certified by The Medical Board of the Initiation Society and Beth Din of London, and ordained by Chief Rabbi of England, Lord Immanuel Jacobowitz.
The Initiation Society is the oldest Anglo-Jewish organization. Founded over 250 years ago, it has existed to ensure the highest medical and religious standards for bris milah (circumcision) amongst mohelim (practitioners). The Initiation society works in close contact with the London Beth Din and all mohelim have to undergo formal training in the medical and halachic (religious) aspects of bris milah.
